In Nairobi, Kenya, at UN Environment Assembly -7, ISA appealed to the global community to work with the Authority to strengthen the multilateral regime to guarantee transparency, environmental integrity, and equity; to help ensure that if humanity ever considers activities in the deep seabed, they occur only under rules crafted collectively, for the benefit of all, and with the highest environmental safeguards ever designed. This is how we avoid a race to the bottom and uphold the common heritage of humankind.
The DSG was joined by ISA’s Environment Coordinator, who spoke about the development of robust Regional Environmental Management Plans (REMPs), environmental thresholds, and the Deep Data repository to ensure informed decision-making.
