The Deep Sea Mining Summit (London, 29-30 April 2019) brings together solution providers, upcoming deep sea mining entities, scientific community representatives and related industries to consider the status and prospects for this emerging industry.

The World Ocean Council (WOC) is an Accredited Observer to the International Seabed Authority and the U.N. negotiations on the Law of the Sea treaty negotiations to address biodiversity in areas beyond national jurisdiction. Through these and other efforts, the WOC is working to advance industry leadership, collaboration and action on responsible ocean economic resource use, including that of sea bed minerals.

The Deep Sea Mining Summit will focus on the challenges facing the deep sea mining industry and identify innovative technological developments needed to address those challenges, including:

• The economic landscape and growth for deep sea mining
• Achieving sustainable sea bed mining projects in harmony with nature
• The status of prospecting and exploration, the latest methods and results
• Regional opportunities to harvest seafloor massive sulphides and manganese nodules
• Working with nations through a regulatory framework, the opportunities and risks
• Technological developments associated with commercializing deep sea mining
